Power lithium-ion batteries do not contain Pb, Cd, Hg and other heavy metal pollutants, but end-of-life power lithium-ion batteries are still harmful to the environment. Single power lithium-ion battery mainly includes positive electrode, negative electrode, diaphragm, electrolyte and shell, etc..
The positive electrode is generally made of aluminum foil, which is coated with positive electrode material on both sides. The positive electrode material consists of a certain proportion of positive active material (LFP, ternary material), conductive agent (acetylene black, carbon nanotubes, etc.) and binder (polyvinylidene fluoride).
The negative electrode material consists of a certain proportion of active material (mostly graphite), dispersant (sodium carboxymethyl cellulose) and binder (styrene butadiene rubber).
The electrolyte mainly consists of organic solvents (vinyl carbonate, methyl carbonate, dimethyl carbonate, propylene carbonate, etc.) and electrolyte solutes (LiPF6, LiBF4, LiClO4, etc.). Therefore, it is important to recycle the end-of-life lithium battery materials for environmental protection.
After the power battery is scrapped from the car, some of the batteries have the value of gradient applications, such as in communication power stations, power grid storage and other fields. After the end of the application, the end-of-life power battery has the value of material regeneration, that is, disassembly and recovery of valuable metal materials. Power battery electrode materials contain Li, Ni, Co and other valuable metals, through reasonable technology recycling, economic benefits can be achieved.
At present, there are mainly two ways to deal with the end-of-life power batteries from electric vehicles, one is to use them in a graded manner, and the other is to dismantle and recycle them. When the capacity of the battery drops to 80% of the initial capacity, it no longer meets the standard of electric vehicles, but can still be used in other applications, such as energy storage systems, power tools, etc. When the battery performance further drops to less than 50% of the initial capacity, it can no longer be used, then the battery will be disassembled and the electrode material will be recovered.
Lithium battery recycling equipment dismantling end-of-life battery material recovery process generally includes battery pack discharge, single battery destructive disassembly, shredding, sorting and electrode material recovery process. Electrode materials contain valuable metals, the recovery value is high, and there are more processes on electrode material recovery. The existing electrode material recovery technology mainly includes dry recovery technology, wet recovery technology and biological recovery technology. The bio-recovery technology is still in the laboratory stage, and the cost of the process is high; the dry recovery technology is suitable for large-scale industrial production, and there are also relevant companies for production lines in operation.
